Dr. Feng Zheng is Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the Health Science Center, ECNU. Dr. Zheng received his bachelor and master degree in Medicine from the Second Military Medical University, China. He worked as an Associate Professor and Junior Chief Physician at Department of Nephrology, Jinling Hospital, Nanjing University School of Medicine. He then received postdoctoral research training at the NIDDK, NIH (Bethesda, USA) and the Mount Sinai Medical School (New York, USA). After the training, Dr. Zheng became Assistant Professor at Vascular Biology Institute, Miami University School of Medicine. Years later, he became a full independent Tenure-track Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor at the Department of Geriatric, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In 2013, Dr. Zheng returned China as a Professor and Director of the Department of Nephrology and Central Medical Laboratory at Union Hospital, Fujian Medical University. In 2016, Dr. Zheng moved to Dalian Medical University as a Chief Vice Dean of Advanced Institute of Medical Sciences and Director of the Department of Nephrology at Second Hospital. He was recruited to Health Science Center, ECNU in 2021.
Dr. Zheng’s lab works on translational renal medicine focusing on pathogenetic mechanisms of renal and peritoneal fibrosis and the cellular and molecular mechanisms of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). The main goals are: (i) to add new knowledge to parathyroid physiology and cell biology and explore the new pathway and therapeutic target for SHPT; (ii) to examine the contribution and mechanism of transcription enhancer and matrix metalloproteinase on renal fibrosis and disease progression and develop clinically relevant marker(s) for acute kidney injury and progressive chronic kidney diseases; (iii) to apply a multi- and cross-discipline approach to translational research on peritoneal dialysis-related peritoneum functional failure. Clinical and animal studies and bulk and single cell transcriptomics approaches in combination with transgenic and moelcular methodologies are implemented in the lab to achieve these goals. Author of more than one hundred peer-reviewed manuscripts in high rank journals, Dr. Zheng has supervised and mentored a vast number of graduate students and postdocs. Several of which are well established Nephrologists in prestigious institutions in different countries.
There are currently several open international positions for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab. Candidates with a background in Nephrology, endocrinology, molecular biology and bioinformatics are encouraged to send their inquiries and resumes to fzheng@hsc.ecnu.edu.cn for detailed information.
